Distribution/Collection Locales: |
Found only in the eastern drainages south of the Masoala peninsula (not including the Mananara river). Its southern most limit is still in debate. Conservation Status: |
Due to this species ability to tolerate brackish water and its wide range it is not considered to be endangered. |

Commonly found at lower elevations along the eastern coast. Found in both Lacustrine and riverine habitats, although the latter is more common. |

Slightly aggressive by Madagascan cichlid standards. Multiple generations live and reproduce in a 440 gallon for the author. Aggression is evident in tighter confines and during periods of reproduction. |
