Welcome to the Madagascar's Endangered
Fishes Archives Page
The Madagascar's Endangered Fishes website Archives page.
Here you'll find the chronological updates that the site has undergone. I'll eventually be storing these somewhere else, but this seems like a good enough spot for right now.

Aside from cheering for the Rockies in the 3rd game of the NLCS, I've put up some more general history and added a few more pictures. It's raining in Denver tonight and my chili is almost done so there won't be much more done tonight. Cheers.October 13th, 2007
I added a .PDF file link for my article on breeding the Pinstripe Damba. Scroll to the bottom of the Paretroplus menarambo information page page to take a look.I've also added some more information on the general history of Madagascar page, as well as some photos to help break up the long running text.

I've made a little headway on the History and general history of Madagascar pages. I've decided to break the history page into four catagories to make it easier to focus on the history you might be looking for. Right now only the general history has any information, but eventually I'll have geological history, ichthyological history, and conservation history.September 30, 2007
Completed the Bedotia marojejy information page. This specimen is available in the hobby on both sides of the Atlantic; you just might need to look hard. Issues with the aggressive nature of mature males can make this species difficult to rear in significant numbers.September 29, 2007
Completed the information about Rheocles vatosoa page with a few pictures to boot. Unfortunately this species is not yet available in the hobby on either side of the Atlantic. I'll be trying to get some hobby species up on the page and flesh out some more of the history and field work pages in the coming weeksSeptember 23, 2007
Wow, has it really been 2+ weeks since I did anything on the site (Sorry!). I've added some more information on habitat and behavior in planted aquaria on the Pe. kieneri information page, as well as the Cichlidae family information page. I also added some information and an article reference on the Pe. nourissati page. A link to Pete Cottle's excellent website for Danios and Devarios has also been added to the links page.September 6, 2007
Added another 5 pictures to the People Gallery pages. I'm also typing in copies of Allgayer's descriptions of Paretroplus menarambo and Paretroplus nourissati for inclusion on the site. I'll need to get permission to post these before hand, so wish me luck.September 4, 2007
Added 5 new pictures to the People Gallery pages. I promise to add some more fish oriented stuff this weekend, I promiseAugust 31st, 2007
Added 7 new pictures to the People Gallery pages.August 29th, 2007
Added a flash gallery of People and Portraits from Madagascar. Currently I'm only showing 10 images in these galleries, but more will come soon.August 25th, 2007
Corrected the spelling of "Madagascar's" above, it was Malagascar's; I need to type a little bit slower! Added a Flash gallery of Madagascar images to the Gallery page, no new images, just a different viewing format. Enjoy.August 24th, 2007
Added my first gallery to the Gallery page; a gallery of twenty-five landscape and cityscape images of Madagascar. I'll be adding more as time allows, but I wanted to get something up and begin the labourious process of trouble-shooting. I'll be adding a flash gallery in the future, but I'm currently stumped by some navigation issues.August 18th, 2007
Added the information aboutPtychochromis grandidieri page and associated links to cichlidae page. I also added the site's first .PDF document, the original decription of Paretroplus kieneri in French. I'll be working on a translation when I have the time.Work on the site is slowing down a little as I'm trying to get some articles for a popular fish magazine started (and finished).

Added links to Oliver Lucanus' Below Water site (Oliver is an adventure/fish collector who has travelled and collected in Madagascar a number of times) and to the SEI site, a conservation project that, among other species, is currently working with Paratilapia sp. nov. "Andapa".August 13th, 2007
Just got back from Kansas City after presenting at the monthly meeting of the H.A.A.S. club. I had a wonderful time and got to see some great fishrooms. The folks out their are doing some excellent work with Discus, Iranocichla (a real treat to see these guys in the flesh), and Corydoras sp.. If you're in the area you should really check out their website (which, they admit, needs a little work) and their forum, but more importantly get out to a meeting and support the hobby.Cheers,
Aleksei Saunders

Corrected my spelling of definitely. Added Eleotridae family page and Eleotris fusca page with some data and pictures.Rearranged the flow of family pages so that the jump-menus are up top and the general information and husbandry information follow. Added more unconnected links of the Ichthyofauna page to gauge the size; I'm thinking of making this a in-line list as opposed to the vertical list I have now.
I'm heading to Kansas to speak at the H.A.A.S. (Heart of American Aquarium Society) club monthly meeting about Madagascar fishes so I won't be updating anything until later next week; wish me luck!

Put up a link to Wild Madagascar. "The mission of WildMadagascar.org is to raise awareness on Madagascar and provide an English-based educational resource for Malagasy people" - Rhett Butler. Lots of information here on all things Madagascar, definitely worth a visit.August 6th, 2007
Added another collection site to the Field Work section; The Tsinjomorona river collection site (try saying that three times fast). I also increased the vertical size of the "flash-stage" to accomodate habitat shots a little easier. I may do this to other pages if it is warrented.Added Paretroplus nourissati information and linked it with the Amboaboa river collection site information page and vice versa.

What's Working?- The About Page
- The Ichthyofauna Page: Aplocheilidae, Bedotiidae and Cichlidae all have entries
- The Links Page
- The Field Work Page: Has one link to the Amboaboa river collection in 2006
Ok, maybe it's not that much, but at least it's a start!
Rectified data errors on Paretroplus kieneri information page; added jump navigation bars to all fish species pages; added information to captive husbandry of Paretroplus menarambo page.
Promised the wife that I'd only spend an hour on the site tonight; promptly spent the better part of three hours and really need to get to bed now.
August 4th, 2007
Roughed out the Aplocheilidae, Bedotiidae and Cichlidae family pages with general information (more is on the way). Touched-up the information onBedotia albomarginata and information about B. leucopteron pages with images and data. Worked on the Pachypanchax sakaramyi information page.Removed dead links from Ichthyofauna page to prevent, or at least limit, frustration. Added navbars to the About page, plus a stunning photograph of your's truly, taken by my wife while we honeymooned in Ireland. Took a break to watch the crazy guys on Discovery channel's shark week work on getting Tiger and White Sharks tonic'd.
